Confirmation hearing for Trump’s pick to lead the FDA kicks off — and we have questions

Dr. Stephen Hahn, who President Trump nominated earlier this month to lead the FDA, will be in the hot seat today as he appears before a Senate committee for a confirmation hearing. And although the MD Anderson executive and oncologist will no doubt have a daunting list of questions to answer from lawmakers, we at STAT have our own list of a dozen questions that we expect will be posed. For instance, Hahn’s predecessor Scott Gottlieb was not shy when it came to using Twitter for explaining policy decisions and being the occasional scold, but will Hahn also be quick to embrace the social media platform? Also, should the FDA regulate drug prices, and is $1 million — or more in some cases — too expensive for a gene therapy? We’ll be tuning in to find out, and you can, too, starting at 10 a.m. ET.
