Inside STAT: Verily leaders 'trying to solve problems that many of us have lived'

Big Tech had a milestone moment at last week’s J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference. Dr. Jessica Mega, the chief medical officer for Google’s life sciences platform Verily, gave a presentation on the company’s work, including on a low-cost, disposable glucose monitor. The health care arms of Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple have yet to speak at the big event. STAT’s Erin Brodwin and Matthew Herper sat down with Mega and her colleague Dr. Vivian Lee, Verily’s head of health platforms, to discuss the company’s JPM debut and progress on Verily’s project to address the opioid crisis in Ohio. “We’re actually trying to solve problems that many of us have lived,” Lee shared.
