Language barriers between patients and providers can contribute to misunderstandings and lead to delays in care. Highlighting benefits to utilizing professional interpreters in health care, this review describes various errors associated with using family and untrained interpreters when treating patients and includes a list of resources to help guide physicians in offering professional interpretation services in their practice.
