PPE Training

CDC, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins Medicine, Salesforce Foundation, Miami University, Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America released a web-based training for putting on and removing personal protective equipment (PPE) to be used during the management of patients with Ebola Virus Disease in U.S. hospitals.

Users begin by selecting the type of PPE they will be wearing, including the respirator (N95 or PAPR) and the type of body covering (gown or coverall). They enter into a portal of resources that are specific to the PPE they have selected.  Video and text help reinforce each step of the donning (putting on) and doffing (removing) sequences.  Training for the trained observer, the person designated to guide the healthcare provider through the steps of putting on and removing PPE, is also provided.
This training is intended to supplement the CDC’s Guidance on Personal Protection Equipment for Managing Patients with Ebola. Prior to working with Ebola patients, all healthcare providers involved in the care of Ebola patients must receive training and demonstrate competency in performing all Ebola-related infection control practices and procedures, specifically in putting on and removing PPE.
