Sterile compounding: clinical, legal, and regulatory implications for patient safety.

Failure to follow safety practices at a compounding pharmacy led to a widespread outbreak of fungal meningitis in 2013, resulting in more than 60 deaths. This review discusses the epidemic and the regulations that have been put into place to improve oversight of compounding pharmacies.
