Correlation between 24-hour predischarge opioid use and amount of opioids prescribed at hospital discharge.

This cross-sectional study at a single institution found that postoperative opioid prescribingvaried widely. Individual patients' 24-hour predischarge opioid use did not predict their postdischarge opioid prescription amount. This suggests the need to optimize opioid prescribing for postoperative patients at discharge.
