This 68-page report represents a timely and relevant contribution to the discussion on internal displacement and its relation to sustainable development in Africa. It provides reliable and up-to-date evidence about the scale of internal displacement in the continent and discusses what is driving it across different contexts. There were 16.8 million people living in internal displacement as a result of conflict and violence in Africa as of the end of 2018. Disasters, particularly those associated with hydrometeorological hazards such as floods, storms and drought, triggered 2.6 million new displacements during the year. (PDF)

This resource, updated in November 2019, provides information about the Disaster Distress Helpline, which provides 24/7, 365-day-a-year crisis counseling and support to people experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters. Counselors provide information on how to recognize distress and its effects on individuals and families; tips for healthy coping; and referrals to local crisis call centers for additional follow-up care and support. The Helpline also answers calls and texts related to infectious disease outbreaks, such as the Ebola outbreak, incidents of community unrest, and other traumatic events. (Text)
