This 120-page report summarizes a workshop held on June 4-5, 2019, about the impacts of the California wildfires, and the population health, environmental health, emergency preparedness, and health equity consequences of increasingly strong and numerous wildfires, particularly in California. Because burning wood releases particulate matter and other toxicants, the health effects of wildfires extend well beyond burns. Communities affected by wildfires tend to experience worse health outcomes from disasters, have fewer resources for responding and rebuilding, and receive less assistance from state, local, and federal agencies. This 114-page report summarizes a workshop held on May 21-22, 2019, to discuss new approaches in social demographic theory, methodology, data collection and analysis, and practice, as well as applications to the community of researchers and practitioners who are concerned with better understanding and assisting forced migrant populations. This workshop brought together stakeholders and experts in demography, public health, and policy analysis to review and address some of the domestic implications of international migration and refugee flows for the United States.
