NEW! December 2019 CMS National Training Program Update

National Training Program

Medicare Enrollment Periods January 1 to March 31

enrollment periods
General Enrollment Period (GEP)
If you didn’t sign up for Part A (if you have to buy it) and/or Part B (for which you must pay premiums) during your Initial Enrollment Period, and you don’t qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you can sign up between January 1–March 31 each year. Your coverage won’t start until July 1 of that year, and you may have to pay a higher Part A and/or Part B premium for late enrollment. For more information on the GEP, go to Medicare.gov/sign-up-change-plans.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP)
If you already have a Medicare Advantage (MA) Plan, the MA OEP is from January – March 31. It gives you a chance to switch back to Original Medicare or change to a different MA Plan depending on which coverage works better for you. For more information on the MA OEP, go to Medicare.gov/sign-up-change-plans.

Did You Know?

  • Flu season is here. It’s not too late to protect yourself and loved ones by getting a free flu shot. It’s free for people with Medicare, once per flu season when you get it from doctors or other health care providers (like senior centers and pharmacies) that take Medicare.
  • You can pay your Medicare premium online. If you get a bill from Medicare for your premiums, you may be able to pay it online with a credit or debit card in 3 easy steps:
    1. Log in to your MyMedicare account (or create one if you don’t have an account yet).
    2. Select “Pay my premium.”
    3. Enter the amount you want to pay. You’ll then be linked to the U.S. Treasury’s secure Pay.gov site to complete your payment.
  • You can learn more about the mail you get about Medicare.
