Impact of anesthetic handover on mortality and morbidity in cardiac surgery: a cohort study.

Communication failures at the time of patient handoffs have been frequently implicated in adverse events. In this single-center study, handoff of care between anesthesia teams during cardiovascular procedures was associated with markedly elevated rates of postoperative morbidity and mortality.
