AHRQ Releases Health Care Facility Design Safety Risk Assessment Toolkit
AHRQ has released a safety risk assessment toolkit to help designers ensure that new or renovated health care facilities support workflow, procedures, and capability while keeping patients and staff safe from harm. The toolkit targets six areas of safety -- infections, falls, medication errors, security, behavioral health, and patient handling-- as required by guidelines of the Facility Guidelines Institute. The toolkit, which was developed under an AHRQ grant to researchers at The Center for Health Design, also addresses more than 200 potential environmental considerations for the built environment and provides a quality check tool that allows teams to prioritize risks within budget constraints.
