Majority of women under 65 haven’t been screened for colon cancer
A new survey of middle-aged and older women finds that more than 60% of those under 65 have not been screened for colon cancer, even though the American Cancer Society recommends screening starting at age 45. Here’s more from the survey, which asked women about their health and well-being:
- Health screenings: Half of women under the age of 65 said they haven’t had a colonoscopy because they didn’t think they’re of the recommended age for the procedure.
- Mental health: More than a quarter of women reported having anxiety or depression. At the same time, women were more likely to rate their mental health as being better than their physical health.
- Menopause: Three-quarters of premenopausal and menopausal women reported experiencing six or more symptoms of the condition, including hot flashes and weight gain. About a third of those experiencing symptoms haven’t discussed them with their physicians.
