This 11-page document is a practical users’ guide to the implementation of two leaching methods developed specifically for analysis of volcanic ash: a deionized water leach, and a simple gastric leach. Guidelines for ash collection and preparation are also included. The document responds to the need for standard and reliable methods for hazard assessment of readily soluble elements following volcanic ashfall, to provide timely and reliable information to emergency managers.
