Increasing Consumer Involvement in Planning, Implementing, and Assessing Homeless Programs
SAMHSA promotes consumer involvement in the delivery of behavioral health services and has helped to make services for people with mental, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders more responsive to their individual needs. This webinar will provide an opportunity for grantees and the greater audience to hear presenters who have experience with meaningful consumer involvement in planning, implementing, and assessing services for people experiencing homelessness and mental and/or substance use disorders. Presenters will share their experience in the areas of consumer/tenant advisory boards, recovery coaches working within homeless services, and consumers as evaluators.
Four presenters will address the following learning objectives:
Increase understanding of how to engage consumers in working in the areas of behavioral health in a more meaningful and productive manner.
Build capacity of consumers to participate/work in the field of substance abuse and/or mental disorders, including training, technical assistance, and ongoing support that may be needed.
Identify three distinct roles consumers can play in the behavioral health field, each carrying different levels of commitment, skill, and interest.
Identify challenges that face consumers and their colleagues as they collaborate as
co-workers in the field.
