Tuesday, September 13, 2016

Save the Date: The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) Data Users Workshop will take place on Tuesday, September 13, at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Conference Room, located at 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD, 20857.

Sponsored by the HHS Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the HCUP Data Users Workshop is a one-day course on the use of HCUP databases and software tools. This year, the Workshop will focus on the newly released 2013 Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD). HCUP faculty will describe the design of the NRD as well as provide information on how the NRD can be used for national readmission analyses. It will be an intermediate level course for people that have familiarity with HCUP or with large administrative databases. Computers will be provided and instructor-led programming examples will be presented in SAS, although knowledge of SAS is not necessary. It is recommended that attendees review the Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD) Tutorial prior to the workshop.

Registration for the September 13 HCUP Data Users Workshop will open in late July.  An announcement will be posted on the HCUP User Support (HCUP-US) Web site under What's New and on the HCUP Events Calendar.  A full program description, registration form, and logistical information will also be availableThere is no charge to attend the workshop. If you have questions, please email hcup@ahrq.gov.

In addition, AHRQ will offer a workshop on another data resource, the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), on September 12-13.  Together, these provide an excellent opportunity for those who would like to attend workshops on both AHRQ projects. A separate registration is needed to attend each workshop. Registration for the MEPS Workshop will also open by late July. Information will be posted at http://meps.ahrq.gov/mepsweb/about_meps/workshops_events.jsp.
