This commentary discusses how clinical scenarios can reveal potential barriers tointeroperability between health information systems and medical devices to ensure they are effectively integrated to support safe clinical workflow, process documentation, and data sharing. The authors describe a patient-controlled analgesia failure to illustrate the scenario method. A previous WebM&M commentary discussed risks inherent in lack of system interoperability.
