Headlines: SAMHSA’s New Suicide Prevention Mobile App To Help Save Lives

SAMHSA Headlines

SAMHSA unveiled a free, new mobile app called Suicide Safe that will help health care providers assist patients with suicidal ideation and behaviors. The app was revealed during the 10-year anniversary event celebrating the SAMHSA-sponsored National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which has answered more than 7 million calls since 2005.
This program aims to provide funding to states to enhance/expand their treatment service systems to increase capacity and provide accessible, effective, comprehensive, coordinated care, and evidence-based medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and recovery support services to individuals with opioid use disorders seeking or receiving MAT.
The grant will fund technical assistance to promote consumer-directed approaches for adults with serious mental illness.
Nominations are now open for the 10th anniversary of the SAMHSA Voice Awards, which will be hosted on August 12, 2015, by "Grey’s Anatomy" star Chandra Wilson. The annual awards program recognizes consumer/peer leaders and entertainment industry professionals whose work and personal stories of resilience demonstrate that people with mental and/or substance use disorders can and do recover and lead meaningful lives.
