Thank You for Making a Difference, Thank You for Your Support

Dear Colleagues,

Over the past weeks, readers around the globe have received letters from ProMED asking for their financial support. Each of these letters has dealt with an infectious disease topic related to a flavivirus. We focused on this unifying theme for this fund raising campaign to illustrate not just the range of subjects ProMED addresses (in five weeks we discussed yellow fever, Dengue, Zika, Hepatitis C, and Powassan), but also ProMED's depth and attention to detail.

In response, ProMED-mail readers around the globe have made the effort to help support a source of news and information they use every day in their professional and personal lives. Thank you! These colleagues have demonstrated their commitment to the unrestricted flow of uncensored news and unfettered commentary about infectious disease outbreaks worldwide. They've supported our work including

3,154 reports on infectious disease outbreaks posted last year.
55 eminent infectious disease and public health experts on staff
32 countries reported on in the past week.[i]
8 geographic and language specific networks.
One Health.
80,000 subscribers in 201 countries.

These individuals - and those ProMED readers who donated during our 2015 end-of-year campaign - appreciate the value of information provided by ProMED moderators and editors stationed all over the globe, networks focused on emerging diseases in East Africa, West Africa, North Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, and editions in Russian, Portuguese, Spanish, and French. Unfortunately, they represent less than 2% of the over 80,000 people who receive ProMED-mail every day.

Only donations can help us meet the annual costs, only your generosity can make ProMED a truly international community of colleagues. If you haven't contributed yet, please step up and take responsibility.

To keep ProMED-mail flowing without restrictions, to safeguard open access to vital emerging disease information, to ensure that ProMED-mail remains freely available to all, we need your support, too.

As you read ProMED over the coming months, please ask yourself
  • Is ProMED-mail important in my work?
  • Do I share ProMED-mail with my colleagues, staff, or students?
  • Will I miss ProMED-mail if it were to come to an end?
To those who have already given, we appreciate your help! You have made a difference: the worldwide community of infectious disease and public health workers benefits from your support. Thank you!

Larry Madoff, Editor
ProMED-mail

P.S. If you can't afford to give today, please plan to make a gift in December. If you and your colleagues use ProMED-mail in your work, please advocate now for a corporate or institutional donation.
