Scully RE, Schoenfeld AJ, Jiang W, et al. JAMA Surg. 2017 Sep 27; [Epub ahead of print].
This retrospective observational study found that the median duration of opioid prescription after routine surgical procedures ranged from 4–15 days overall. A significant proportion of these prescriptions were refilled, highlighting the risk of chronic use following the acute pain setting.
