Quality, safety, and outcomes in anaesthesia: what's to be done? An international perspective.
Anesthesiology was an early adopter of human factors engineering and other safety approaches that are now more widespread throughout medicine. This review explores individual, system, and policy factors that affect safety in anesthesiology. The authors discuss areas of safety concern such as medication use, payment reform, and burnout. They suggest enhancing patient engagement and use of technology to sustain momentum toward improvement.
