Computerised prescribing for safer medication ordering: still a work in progress.

The unintended consequences related to implementation of health information technologies have been widely documented. In this commentary, the authors offer insights regarding a government-funded investigation of 10 computerized provider order entry systems, discussweaknesses in these systems, and make recommendations to focus on designing around human factors, enhancing workflow, and improving reporting.
