Health literacy in transitions of care: an innovative objective structured clinical examination for fourth-year medical students in an internship preparation course.
This educational intervention study found that participation in a skills-based health literacyworkshop enhanced medical students' communication during a standardized patient examination compared to students who had not completed the workshop. These results show that literacy-appropriate communication is a teachable skill. A previous AHRQ WebM&Minterview discussed the importance of health literacy for patient safety.
