Lung Cancer Screening Decision Aid and Tools for Health Care Professionals and Patients

This new decision aid and toolkit were developed to help patients between the ages of 55-80, who have smoked for many years, make informed decisions with their health care professionals about getting screened for lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT). The resources will help patients and their health care professionals prepare to talk about whether lung cancer screening is appropriate as well as the possible benefits and harms of screening using this method. Low-dose computed tomography is the only recommended screening test for lung cancer.

Register for Free Webinar on Using AHRQ’s New Decision Aid for Lung Cancer Screening

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will host a webinar Thursday, April 7 from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. ET, to discuss how AHRQ’s new lung cancer screening decision aid and toolkit can be used in shared decision-making and patient counseling as required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for Medicare coverage of lung cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography.

This webinar will address: (1) why shared decision making can be helpful to patients and providers in deciding whether to participate in lung cancer screening; (2) the key components of AHRQ’s new lung cancer screening decision aid toolkit for use in primary care settings; and (3) how the new decision aid and other tools included in the toolkit can help health care professionals meet the CMS shared decision-making and patient counseling requirements for Medicare coverage of lung cancer screening.
