SAMHSA Announces CBHSQ, OPPI Leadership Selections
SAMHSA is pleased to announce that Daryl Kade has been named as the Director of the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ) and Monica Feit, Ph.D., has been named as the Director of the Office of Policy, Planning, and Innovation (OPPI). Ms. Kade and Dr. Feit were already serving as Acting Directors of CBHSQ and OPPI, respectively. Effective April 3, 2016, they will assume the permanent Director positions.
As CBHSQ Director, Ms. Kade will be responsible for the leadership, management, and operations of the Center's 88 staff and a significant portfolio of data collection and analytic contracts. CBHSQ provides national leadership in behavioral health statistics and epidemiology, participates with other federal agencies in developing national health statistics policy, and consults and advises SAMHSA's leadership and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on statistical matters. In addition, Ms. Kade brings a wealth of knowledge about SAMHSA's programs and extensive management experience. She will also serve a critical guiding role as SAMHSA enhances its senior scientific professional presence within CBHSQ and across the agency. Prior to leading CBHSQ, Ms. Kade served for a year as Acting Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, and served as Director of SAMHSA's Office of Financial Resources for 4 years. Before that, she worked for the Office of National Drug Control Policy, where she served as the budget and legislative analyst responsible for drug treatment and prevention programs.
As the OPPI Director, Dr. Feit will lead and manage the office that provides leadership on cross-cutting policy issues at SAMHSA and with external stakeholders. Dr. Feit brings with her a broad range of knowledge related to public health and health policy—her professional experiences will help ensure OPPI is well positioned to assist SAMHSA in policy formulation and implementation. She joined HHS in 2013 as the Director of the Division of Public Health Services in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE). Her work at ASPE largely focused on policy related to safety net programs and the Affordable Care Act. Prior to her arrival at HHS, Dr. Feit worked as a Senior Program Officer at the Institute of Medicine, directing health policy studies on the integration of primary care and public health.
SAMHSA looks forward to working with Ms. Kade and Dr. Feit to improve the behavioral health of the nation, and reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities.
