National Rural Health Day

On November 16th, the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy will join the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) to celebrate National Rural Health Day.

Events throughout the week, open to the public and viewable online, will showcase collaboration for rural health across HRSA’s bureaus and offices as well as other departments within HHS. HRSA will kick off the week's activities with daily Twitter chats about rural health over three days beginning on Monday, November 13.

This year marks 30 years for the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, authorized by Congress in 1987 to advise the Secretary of Health and Human Services, coordinate activities related to rural health within the Department, and maintain a national information clearinghouse. Partnerships for Care Project transforms HIV care in 22 HRSA-funded health centers

Last month, our colleague wrote about the successes of the three-year Partnerships for Care (P4C) demonstration project in advancing primary care capacity for HIV diagnosis, treatment, and care among health centers.

Preliminary data from the first two years of P4C showed improvement on key indicators, including the numbers of persons tested for HIV and the percentage of people living with HIV who were virally suppressed.

In this blog post, we focus on some of the successes that are harder to measure with quantitative data because they represent the systemic and capacity-building changes that contributed to a more effective and efficient way of driving the progress we want to see.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month commemorated across HHS

Approximately one in every four women in the U.S. and one in seven men experiences "intimate partner violence," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Included are physical and sexual violence, stalking, and verbal and mental abuse.

HRSA's Office of Women's Health recently launched The HRSA Strategy to Address Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), an agency-wide initiative to integrate IPV screening and prevention into key programs through coordinated action and activities spanning from 2017-2020. CDC/HRSA Advisory Committee on HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STD Prevention and Treatment

On October 25 and 26, HRSA convened a meeting of the CDC/HRSA Advisory Committee on HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STD Prevention and Treatment (CHAC) at HRSA’s Headquarters in Rockville, MD.

CHAC advises HRSA’s Administrator, CDC’s Director, and the HHS Secretary on state of the art approaches and strategies to address HIV, viral hepatitis, and STD prevention, care and treatment.

The advisory committee meeting topics included CDC and HRSA updates; CHAC workgroup reports; strategies to address people living with HIV who are not in care; HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau benchmarking and risk adjustment initiatives; and HRSA and CDC initiatives regarding congenital syphilis.
