Jennifer Robbins Awards for the Practice of Public Health Law

CDC’s Public Health Law Program (PHLP) would like to congratulate Montrece Ransom, JD, MPH PHLP’s team lead for public health training and workforce development, on receiving the 2017 Jennifer Robbins Award for the Practice of Public Health Law. Her outstanding dedication and leadership has had and continues to have significant and long-term impacts in the public health law field.

Call for Abstracts

The Network for Public Health Law is accepting abstracts for panels and individual presentations for the 2018 National Public Health Law Conference. Abstracts topics should relate to strengthening public health protections, public health across sectors, access to care and health equity, public health law practice, and other trending topics. Direct questions about the abstract process or submission to Megan Griest, The deadline for submitting abstracts is December 15, 2017.

Journal Article About State Information Exchange Laws

”Falling Short: How State Laws Can Address Health Information Exchange Barriers and Enablers” describes whether comprehensive state and territorial health information exchange legal frameworks address identified legal facilitators and barriers. The article was published in the Journal of Informatics in Health and Biomedicine on November 2, 2017. (Subscription required.)

Sixth Annual Health Law Year in P/Review Symposium

At this symposium, hosted by the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School, leading experts will discuss major developments in health law in 2017 and preview what's to follow in 2018. The discussion will cover a number of hot topics, including health policy under the new administration, regulatory issues in clinical research, law at the end of life, patient rights and advocacy, pharmaceutical policy, reproductive health, and public health law. This free symposium will take place December 12, 2017, 8:30 am–5:00 pm (EST).
