Just-in-time training for high-risk low-volume therapies: an approach to ensure patient safety.

Risk of error is increased when health care facilities offer procedures that they rarely perform. This commentary describes an initiative to address experience and competency shortcomings for bedside nurses on an as-needed basis, given the demands of complex treatments they do not often provide.
