"It's the difference between life and death": the views of professional medical interpreters on their role in the delivery of safe care to patients with limited English proficiency.
Professional interpreters make care safer and higher quality for patients with limited English proficiency. This qualitative study examined professional interpreter perceptions regarding their role in patient safety and found that it extends beyond correct interpretation to acting as an advocate. The authors call for patient safety training for professional interpreters.
