Randomised controlled trial to assess the effect of a Just-in-Time training on procedural performance: a proof-of-concept study to address procedural skill decay.
This randomized study compared simulated performance of a rare, high-risk emergent procedure, transvenous pacemaker placement, with and without a computer-based procedural support tool. The tool included a brief instructional video and a checklist. Trained raters assessed performance as higher in the presence of the computerized support, and the authors conclude that this type of intervention can improve the safety of rare, high-risk procedures.
