The relationship between resident burnout and safety-related and acceptability-related quality of healthcare: a systematic literature review.



    Physician burnout has reached epidemic levels. This systematic review examined whether resident physician burnout reduces safety or quality of care. Burned out residents reported poorer quality and safety, but few studies corroborated self-reported errors with clinical outcomes or chart review. A past Annual Perspective explored the relationship between burnout and safety.
