DIGITAL TOOLS AND RESOURCES FOR NATIONAL TRANSGENDER HIV TESTING DAY 2017
April 11, 2017 • By AIDS.gov

National Transgender HIV Testing Day (NTHTD) is coming up on April 18, 2017. The Center for Excellence (COE) for Transgender Health
at the University of California, San Francisco, founded NTHTD. This is the second year of this observance. (Here are some reflections and highlights from the first year’s observance).

NTHTD is a day to recognize the importance of HIV testing for those at risk of infection, accurate knowledge of HIV status, and continued focus on prevention and HIV medical care and treatment services that are responsive to the needs and experiences of transgender people. According to CDC:
- Studies reveal high HIV prevalence rates among transgender women in the United States.
- Black/African American transgender women are more likely to have HIV than transgender women of other races/ethnicities.
- Many social and structural factors pose challenges to preventing HIV among transgender people.
