AHRQ’s Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT)
helps health professionals and others select educational materials that are easy for patients to understand and use. The tool’s reliability and validity testing is discussed in a recent journal article, “Development of the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT): A new measure of understandability and actionability for print and audiovisual patient information.”

A user-friendly tool that requires no training beyond reading the User’s Guide, the PEMAT is the first tool to measure whether materials are actionable as well as understandable. The PEMAT can be used for audio-visual as well as print materials. |
