Now Available: Searchable Database of Supplemental Survey Questions to Customize CAHPS® Surveys
CAHPS survey users who want to ask about additional aspects of patient experience can now browse a collection of hundreds of supplemental questions by topic. To ensure comparability across health care organizations, CAHPS surveys ask standardized questions on a limited number of key topics that drive patients’ ratings of their health care experience. Supplemental items give users a way to customize their surveys to address topics relevant to their organizations or local markets or gather more information about a specific concern.
Users can search for supplemental items for specific CAHPS surveys by population (adult or child) and/or by topic. The searchable database provides the full question along with response options, related items, and instructions for placing the item in the survey instrument.
Supplemental items are available for the CAHPS Clinician & Group Survey, Health Plan Survey, Cancer Care Survey, and Hospital Survey.
Most items address the following topics:
- Care coordination
- Health information technology
- Health literacy
- Health promotion & education
- Narrative comments
- Patient-centered medical home
- People With Mobility Impairments
- Shared decision making
