Earlier this week, I met with fellow health ministers and other distinguished leaders at the 68th World Health Assembly gathering in Geneva. This is an important gathering, because as the world witnessed with the Ebola virus this past year, our planet is too small for nations to operate in isolation when it comes to facing major health challenges. Health threats don’t recognize borders, and we must recognize our need for global solutions.
During this year’s World Health Assembly, we explored opportunities for partnerships and collaborations to combat the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, continue the fight against Ebola, and to address a number of other global threats, like HIV/AIDS, maternal and child mortality, and polio. As a result, participating nations reaffirmed our commitment to supporting our shared goal of creating a healthier world that is ready to meet any challenge.
I wanted to share my remarks to the World Health Assembly and a few snapshots from this year’s important gathering with you:
