Description

The purpose of this course is to help healthcare workers better understand the scope and nature of violence in the healthcare workplace.  Participants will learn how to recognize the key elements of a comprehensive workplace violence prevention program, how organizational systems impact workplace violence, how to apply individual strategies, and develop skills for preventing and responding to workplace violence. Content is derived from content experts and from the OSHA 2004 Guidelines for Preventing Workplace Violence for Health Care & Social Service Workers (OSHA 3148-01R 2004).

Instructions for Completing Posttest & Evaluation Online

1. View the Workplace Violence Prevention for Nurses (wwwn.cdc.gov/wpvhc/Course.aspx/Slide/Intro_1) course online.
2. Once you completed the course, go to CDC Training and Continuing Education Online (www.cdc.gov/tceonline).
1. If you have not registered as a participant, click on new participant to create a user ID and password; otherwise click on participant login and login.
2. If you have registered in this system before, please use the same login name and password. This will ensure an accurate transcript.
3. Once you have logged in/registered, Click on search and keyword search for course WB1865.
4. Click on the course. The course information page will come up. Scroll down to register here. Click on the type of CE credit that you would like to receive and then submit. Three demographic questions will come up. Complete the questions and then submit.
5. From "Participant services," click on "evaluations and tests"
6. Answer the questions presented on posttest (all answers are in the course material).
1. To receive continuing education credit, you must answer all of the questions.
2. Some questions have more than one answer. Questions with more than one answer will instruct you to "indicate all that are correct."
7. Complete the course evaluation.
8. You will be able to immediately print your continuing education certificate from your personal transcript.
9. A record of your completion will be located in the transcript and certificate section of your record.

• Identify appropriate resources to support injured healthcare workers.
• Take steps to implement a comprehensive workplace violence prevention program.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Accreditation Statements

CNE:  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
This activity provides 2.6 contact hours.
CEU:  The CDC has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. The CDC is authorized by IACET to offer 0.3 ANSI/IACET CEU's for this program.
CECH:  Sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. This program is designed for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and/or Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES) to receive up to 2.5 total Category I continuing education contact hours.
