A Look Back at WEAAD 2016
Wednesday was World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), a call-to-action to end elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation and to celebrate the dignity and contributions of older people.
ACL collected over 200 photos sampling the diverse ways people around the world commemorated WEAAD,
ACL created a round up of WEAAD blog posts and statements Wednesday morning. Since then, we've added:
- President Barack Obama's proclamation declaring June 15 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
- Assistant Secretary for Aging Kathy Greenlee's conversation with HelpAge USA about WEAAD and the global elder justice movement.
- Blog posts from the International Center for Research on Women and the World Bank on the importance of including older women in the discussion on gender-based violence.
