Celebrating Corps Community Day

Dept. of Health & Human Services
Day after day we see that the Affordable Care Act is working, making a difference across the nation. Millions more Americans have health insurance today, and the number of uninsured adults has decreased by 26 percent. With more people enrolled in affordable, quality health coverage, it’s critical to ensure they have access to a strong U.S. health care workforce to provide them with top flight care.
That’s where programs like the National Health Service Corps step in. The Corps strengthens the U.S. primary care workforce by providing loan repayment and scholarships to clinicians in exchange for working in communities that need care the most. Today, more than 9,200 Corps clinicians provide care to nearly 9.7 million patients at 4,900 health care facilities nationwide. In addition, there are another 1,100 students and residents preparing now to practice.
Today, we celebrate the National Health Service Corps through Corps Community Day - which honors the work our dedicated health care professionals are doing to build healthy communities and highlights the importance of the U.S. primary care workforce.
