Survey of the national drug shortage effect on anesthesia and patient safety: a patient perspective.

According to this survey study, most patients would like to be told about an anesthetic drug shortage and to have the option of postponing an elective surgery if the first-line medication is unavailable. The authors suggest information about drug shortages be included in informed consent.
