Workarounds in the workplace: a second look.

Workarounds are prevalent in health care and create opportunities for unintended consequences. This commentary discusses how poor design of health information technology can lead to more nurse workarounds and increase their workload. The authors make recommendations to reduce risks of workarounds, including clinician involvement in technology design and implementation.
