January 2015 CMS National Training Program Update

National Training Program

Group of Professional People

As people get ready for tax season, they may need you to
help them understand that their 2014 health coverage may
affect their income taxes. This tax year people will be asked
to provide additional information when they file 2014 federal
income tax returns. And they may have to complete two new
forms.
It’s important for people to know that If anyone in their household
enrolled in a health plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace
in 2014, they’ll get a new Form 1095-A — Health Insurance Marketplace
Statement.
The form will be mailed in early February for them to use to file
their 2014 federal income tax return. They won’t get this form
if no one in the household is enrolled in a Marketplace Qualified
Health Plan.
If a person had health coverage from another source, like a job,
Medicare, Medicaid, or an insurance plan they bought outside the
Marketplace they’ll report this by checking a box on their federal
income tax form.

health coverage affects your 2014 federal income tax return
Tax tools to help you file your 2014 taxes: Tools will be available
on HealthCare.gov in mid-January to find the lowest cost Bronze plan
(to help people see if they qualify for an exemption, using Form 8965),
and the second-lowest cost Silver plan (to help determine a person’s
final 2014 premium tax credit, using Form 8962).
