Five years ago, Datapalooza started with a small group of 45 entrepreneurs, policy leaders, researchers, and other advocates of open data. They met to find ways to use health data to better inform individuals and their communities as they make decisions about their health. They had about 25 data sets at their disposal.
Today, Datapalooza welcomes more than 2,000 attendees, and thanks to leadership from HHS, local governments and state health departments, there are nearly 2,000 data sets available for them to explore and use in innovative ways – all available at HealthData.gov.
The excitement around Datapalooza reflects an excitement I hear when I travel and meet with everyone from CEOs, to governors, to small businesses, to consumers. Across the board there’s a sense that we are at the threshold of a truly historic opportunity to transform our health care system in unprecedented ways.
