More than $138 billion was spent on health services for women ages 18 to 39 in 2009. Pregnancy and normal childbirth, mental disorders, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and bronchitis and upper respiratory infections accounted for one-third ($47 billion) of the spending.
