New This Week on HealthIT.gov — Thanksgiving edition

While we hunker down here on the East Coast, retreating from the storms into our kitchens to cook and mingle with our friends and families, we hope you all have something to be thankful for. We remain thankful for your help and even your constructive criticism on the road to interoperability.

In the meantime, holiday gatherings can be an opportunity to help your children learn about their health history.

In This Issue

My Family Health History

The Acting Surgeon General writes on the Buzz blog about this Internet-based health tool that helps families “assemble a valuable portrait of their health risks. A health portrait can help you and your health care provider better manage your health,” writes Rear Admiral Boris D. Lushniak. You can also listen to a podcast about the tool.

Meaningful Use Updates

Take a second to check out the latest Electronic Health Record products used for Meaningful Use. We update this list monthly, so you might want to bookmark it.

Also, Medicare eligible hospitals (including Critical Access Hospitals) must attest to Meaningful Use by 11:59 EST on Nov. 30 (that is Saturday).

Interoperability training updates

Our Web-based interoperability training courses have been a huge success. Hundreds of health IT staff and partners have completed the training modules related to transitions of care, lab exchange, patient engagement and transmission of information to public health agencies. IO 2.0 – that’s InterOperability 2.0 – is our effort to ensure that the content remains accurate and is based on the changing landscape of interoperability and health information exchange. We recently updated the courses to reflect:
  • Changes in policy.
  • The evolution of interoperability and health information exchange.
  • Feedback from subject matter experts and lessons learned.
Please visit the updated training modules!

HIT Fellows Update

The latest class of HIT Fellows is hard at work reviewing your feedback about: privacy and security tools and resources, Clinical Quality Measures and our Blue Button initiative, among other topics. Read more about what the Fellows are up to in a new blog post.

Take the Blue Button Pledge

More than 500 leading organizations have voluntarily committed to help advance patient access to -- and use of – their health data. Please consider becoming a member of our Blue Button Pledge Program. It is an opportunity to stay in touch with ONC and learn the latest about activities related to Blue Button and consumer e-health. The ultimate goal is to enable all patients and their caregivers – beyond just veterans and those on Medicare – the ability to view, download and transmit their health data where and when they need it, to help them better manage their care.
