AHRQ Chartbook on Person- and Family-Centered Care Reports on Communication

A report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) shows the percentage of adults who reported poor communication with health providers decreased significantly for all ethnic groups between 2002 and 2013. A product of the National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report, AHRQ’s Chartbook on Person- and Family-Centered Care includes the following measures:

  • Poor communication with adult and child health providers in offices/clinics
  • Poor communication with doctors and nurses in hospitals
  • Provider-patient communication among adults receiving home health care, by language and by race/ethnicity
  • Providers asking patients to assist in making treatment decisions, by insurance, education, number of chronic conditions, and ethnicity
