Join in Global Road Safety Week to Create a More Walkable World: Injury Center News

The Second United Nations Global Road Safety Week will be held May 6-12. The goal of the Week is to draw attention to the need to better protect pedestrians worldwide. How big is the problem? More than 5,000 pedestrians are killed on the world’s roads each week. Pedestrians comprise nearly one quarter of global road deaths annually. The vast majority of pedestrian deaths occur in low and middle income countries. In 2010, 4,280 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States, and another 70,000 pedestrians were injured.
