The Second United Nations Global Road Safety Week will be held May 6-12. The goal of the Week is to draw attention to the need to better protect pedestrians worldwide.
How big is the problem?
  • More than 5,000 pedestrians are killed on the world’s roads each week.
  • Pedestrians comprise nearly one quarter of global road deaths annually.
  • The vast majority of pedestrian deaths occur in low and middle income countries.
  • In 2010, 4,280 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States, and another 70,000 pedestrians were injured.
