The public health perspective on translating genomics into health benefits: More important than ever

The term P4 medicine has been used to denote a new era of medicine that uses systems biology approaches and information technologies. Its four components include predictive, preventive, personalised, and participatory medicine. Dr Muin Khoury argues that, in order to fulfil the promise of P4 medicine, a ‘fifth P’ must be integrated - the population perspective - into each of the other four components.
