By: Sylvia Mathews Burwell, HHS Secretary
One year ago today, I had the distinct honor and privilege of stepping into the role of HHS Secretary. It has been an incredible year.
The hard-working people of this Department are some of the most dedicated and selfless public servants around, and together we’ve had the chance to do some great work.
We helped millions of Americans access quality, affordable health coverage. Teams across the Department worked tirelessly at home and abroad to combat the spread of Ebola and educate the public about how the virus is transmitted. And we launched initiatives to fight the opioid abuse epidemic, and stop the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria.
These are just a few of the many contributions from our colleagues across the HHS family that are making the Department stronger.
