Buenos Aires will host the 18th ICID
I am delighted to announce that the International Society for Infectious Diseases will hold its next International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) in Buenos Aires, Argentina from the 1st to the 4th of March 2018. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the XVIII Congreso de la Sociedad Argentina de Infectología (SADI, the Infectious Diseases Society of Argentina) with the two societies collaborating to offer what will be an outstanding program of both regional and international expertise. The ISID has always had a particular focus on the global burden of infectious diseases and I am therefore very pleased that we are returning to South America after an interval of 18 years.
The 18th ICID will encompass all of the fields of infectious diseases with particular
attention being paid to the major challenges of the region including, of course, Zika,
dengue and other related viral infections, AIDS, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and enteric
and parasitic infections. ISID has been at the forefront of the One Health movement and this is reflected in our meetings, which also have a major focus on disease prevention and vaccine implementation. ISID meetings are distinguished
by their unique blend of basic science and clinical practice. With state-of-the-art scientific presentations delivered by a global faculty with first-hand experience and knowledge of the conditions that they discuss, ISID meetings are notable for the
extraordinarily wide range of countries represented and the opportunity they afford for close exchange and communication between senior and junior colleagues.
We are greatly looking forward to collaborating with our colleagues in South America and we hope you will be able to join us for what will be an outstanding meeting. I look forward to seeing you there.
President, International Society for Infectious Diseases
