Webinar: Enhancing Access to Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) Through Health Information Technology—Work Group Recommendations
Prescription drug misuse and overdose is one of the fastest growing health epidemics. The goal of the Enhancing Access to PDMPs Project is to use health information technology (IT) to increase timely access to PDMP data in an effort to reduce prescription drug misuse and overdose.
The purpose of the webinar is to present recommendations and products from the work groups, which included individuals from the health care community, industry, trade and advocacy groups, and state and Federal Government. The diverse members relied on their knowledge and expertise to develop recommendations and products that will increase the usefulness and availability of PDMP information.
A report on these recommendations will provide valuable insights into the factors and issues that stakeholders will need to consider as they work to enhance these important information exchanges. The report is currently under review with the Federal sponsors. Once approved, the report will be released.
*Please note: Space is limited.

The Enhancing Access to PDMPs Project stems from joint efforts of the stakeholder experts who participated in the White House Roundtable on Health IT and Prescription Drug Abuse (June 3, 2011), and the Prescription Drug Abuse and Health IT Work Group of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Behavioral Health Coordinating Committee, which resulted in the Action Plan for Improving Access to Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs Through Health Information Technology.
